Dollie "Trailer" Waters SCC #470011 - Brenham, Texas
Member of the Independence Trail Texas Chapter
November 26, 1948 ~ November 18, 2009
Among the many things this 20 year Navy Veteran enjoyed was the pleasure she got from being a member and sister of, and riding with the SCRC. She will most surely be missed by her husband "Truck" as he feels lost without his "Trailer".
The Lord decided that He needed Dollie in Heaven to aid in the proper training of new angels. She was called home after fighting cancer for 14 years (she won the battle twice, the third time the dragon won). Dollie was sent to earth to help all those she met, especially her husband to be better loving people. She has done that, with and for many, and now her task is complete.
She left this earth comfortable, at peace, and went to be with the Lord unafraidy!
Andy Durnford SCC #298020 - Newmarket, Ontario
Member of the Newmarket Ontario Chapter
December 3, 2009
The members of Newmarket Chapter 298 have all been touched by Andy in some way or another over the years he's ridden with our family of friends. He was a quiet generous man and was with us every week to go wherever the group chose to ride. He participated in all the events and special rides, and enjoyed the camaraderie that the Club provided. He has definitely shown just how strong a man he was, by living life to the fullest, even when he knew his time here was short. Andy has been a core member of the Newmarket chapter since May 1st, 2006 and has always had a love for the club. Even when he first took ill, he didn't let that stop him from enjoying the open road. He has covered a lot of miles on two wheels and if we know Andy at all, he is already scoping out some awesome roads for us out there somewhere.
Andy moved to Florida in October of this year where he was hoping to spend more time in the saddle, but passed away after a lengthly struggle againest with Cancer on December 3rd. He will be missed by all who knew him but fondly remembered by all.
Ride in Peace, Andy!

Frederick Brack SCC#328121 -
Thornton, Ontario
Member of the Barrie Ontario Chapter
July 16, 1959 ~ July 17, 2009
Freddy "FreezinFred" Brack's passion was living large - and riding. Freddy
was a member of Southern Cruisers 328, Los Silverados, and Volusia Riders
International.
He was a good friend to everyone he met and was always willing to lend
a hand - especially if it was to build something. Rarely did he miss a
Wednesday ride.
Fred and his wife Paddy were enjoying family, friends, careers and pets
when in the fall of 2004 Fred seemed to get a flu bug that he couldn't
shake. On February 22, '05 and barely able to get out of bed, he was diagnosed
with Acute Leukemia and immediately admitted into Princess Margaret Hospital
in Toronto. By May he was finally in remission and able to go home to
Thornton.
Life was good and the bike got lots of miles until September '06 when
several Southern Cruisers brothers escorted him (all on bikes) back to
Princess Margaret Hospital for a stem cell transplant. Life changed and
Fred fought infection after infection.
Although they said it was initially a success, major general damage was
caused and by November 08 Fred was admitted into Barrie Hospital with
major brain damage and a very compromised immune system. Paddy was at
his side every day as his mind and body deteriorated
One day after his 50th birthday, Fred passed away in Penetang General
Hospital. The oncologists at Princess Margaret Hospital performed an autopsy.
Fred's legacy will be that hopefully they can prevent others from going
through the immense pain and fear that he and Paddy battled for almost
5 years.

Larry "GaDawg" White SCC#213130
- Conyers, Georgia
Member of the Central GA Chapter
March 20, 1948 - June 27, 2009
Larry was an "Army Brat" living throughout the U.S. as he grew up. He
was a Cub Scout, a Boy Scout and worked his way up to Eagle Scout. He
graduated from Newton County H.S. in Covington, GA then joined the U.S.
Navy. He had a son and a daughter, who gave him five grandchildren.
Larry had a very full and interesting life. He was a student at Toccoa
Falls College, earning his degree to minister the word of God. He didn't
have to tell anyone how he felt about our Lord, he lived it. He retired
from Southern Railroad and the fun escalated, taking numerous missionary
trips to foreign lands, riding with Freedom Riders, Patriot Guard as well
as SCRC. If you ask someone who met him what they remember most, it would
be his smiling face, his thoughtfulness, his respect for those around
him and that he was a true southern gentleman.
On June 27, 2009, GaDawg was riding to Augusta, GA to honor a fallen vet.
He was involved in a crash and was pronounced at the scene. Word spread
quickly and the sickening, numbness set in. The following Sunday, the
SCRC family pulled together and rode to pay respects to the White family.
Little did we know, that day would end with laughter, not tears. At the
Memorial Service on Tuesday, it was more of the same. Brother GaDawg,
YOU are missed and will be missed for a LONG time, but you will continue
to live in our hearts and memories because of the stories you have given
us. We love you and will ride with you again.

David Cagle SCC#166064 – Muscle
Shoals, Alabama
Member of the Northwest Alabama Chapter
June 11, 2008
David Cagle, 78, fought a hard battle with cancer. He passed away peacefully
in his home with family members there to say a temporary goodbye.
David started riding motorcycles in the 1940's. In 1947, he had an old
Indian Motorcycle that he rode around with his girlfriend on the back.
In 1950, David married that sweet little lady and they enjoyed motorcycles
up until recent years when his health became a factor. David and his wife
Carolyn went on a number of rides, even over night rides to the Smokey
Mountains with our chapter 188. His son, TC Cagle, is also a member of
the Southern Cruisers. David helped with the first Rally At The River
and he rented steps for the flat-bed we used as a stage. He was especially
memoriable when he opened his "Dirty Santa" gift of a ladies nightie at
one of our Christmas parties. He laughed harder than we'd ever heard him.
We must remember the good times we have shared our friends who pass on
and share those memories with those who did not have the fortune to know
them. Memories of David will brighten our days for many years to come
and he will be with us in spirit forever.
David's family and friends are in our prayers.

Dale "DragonWing"
Duvall SCC#221172 – Lawrenceville, GA
Member of the Stone Mountain Georgia Chapter
July 02, 1950 ~ December 31, 2008
On the afternoon of December 31st, 2008, the Stone Mountain chapter lost
a great Road Captain, a great Tail Gunner, a great friend, and a beloved
member of our family to a sudden and unexpected massive heart attack.
He was preparing to host a New Year's Eve party for his friends and family
when this tragedy occurred.
Dale had a sharp sense of humor that always brought laughter wherever
he went. As a Road Captain and especially as TailGunner, he always made
everyone feel welcome and safe, you knew your ride would be memorable
and without incident. You could always count on Dale being there when
you needed him, whether you asked or not. He always took pride in his
service to the group, and embraced our Ride to Eat philosophy. He also
served as TailGunner for the PGR. The PGR knows the same safe feeling
of Dale having your back on a ride.
Dale's wife, Beattie, was escorted by a large procession of motorcycles
and other vehicles (SCRC, PGR, friends, and family) to the funeral home.
The PGR proudly provided the American flags at the funeral home to honor
Dale as a Viet Nam Vet and proud Marine. He must have been Tail Gunning
from above as this was yet another ride without incident. Dale is missed
by everyone, we lost a true Brother and friend that day. We'd like to
think that tail wind we feel while on the motorcycle is Dale still watching
over us, still wanting to keep our ride safe.
Rest In Peace, DragonWing.

Jeremiah "Jery" Moore
SCC#63143 – Nicholasville, KY
Member of the Lexington Kentucky Chapter
March 7, 1974 ~ March 17, 2009
Jery was a member of Chapter 63, Lexington KY and passed away on March
17, 2009 at the all too young age of 35. Around the time he joined our
Chapter, he was diagnosed with Colon Cancer and while he wasn't able to
ride with us much due to his illness, he will be missed.
Jery loved to ride. The picture included with this memorial is from his
last ride. One week before he passed away, his family members loaded him
up on his bike so he could take just one more ride because everyone knew
the end was nearing. He made it to the end of his street and back (while
escorted by his Brother) and collapsed on his bike as soon as he got back
home. But he got to take his last ride. May we all be that lucky! As a
testament to the importance of riding in his life, his bike (on a trailer)
led the funeral procession from the funeral home to the Cemetary. Jery
is survived by his wife Natalie and their two daughters as well as his
three brothers.
RIP and Ride On Jery. We’ll all ride together again one day!

after learning of his disease and he road every chance he got. Jerry was

Mike Barker SCC#63046 - Lexington,
KY
Member of the Lexington Kentucky Chapter
Summer 2007
Mike passed away during the summer of 2007 from a inoperable brain tumor.
He was a gentle mountain of a man. Mike always took things in stride and
never said anything bad about anyone. He loved his bike and he loved his
SCRC family. Whenever we asked him to go out for a ride he would always
make sure it was OK with his grand daughter if he left for a little while.
Mike cherished his grand daughter and his family, but always seemed to
make time for his friends. Mike believed in the Southern Cruisers ideals
and mission and directly influenced at least 15 members to join SCRC #063.
We wish there were more people like Mike in the world as it would truly
be a better place. Our lives are a bit emptier without Mike but we can
take solace in the fact that he is no longer suffering and has gone to
a better place.
Mike will be missed by many as evidenced by the number of people and friends
that came to his funeral. We can only hope that in our passing we will
be remembered by our loved ones and friends as fondly as Mike is.

Bennie B. Shepherd, Jr. SCC#439038
- Commerce, Ga
Member of the Athens Georgia Chapter
January 3, 1948 ~ July 30,
2008
Bennie lost his battle with pancreatic cancer on July 30, 2008. He was
a true friend, brother, and family to all of us and he will be greatly
missed by all who knew him.
Bennie served in the Army and the Marines. He was a Vietnam War veteran
and a Purple Heart recipient. His passions were riding his motorcycle
with his Southern Cruisers family, going to the camp-outs at LZ Friendly,
and most of the time, he had his camera with him. He also loved the outdoors
and animals.
As a Southern Cruiser, Bennie was always willing to help in any way he
could. He developed and hosted the web pages for many chapters in Georgia
and other states as well. He was always taking pictures of people, rides,
and events and posting them for all to enjoy. Bennie had a happy mischievous
smile on his face and was quick to come up with a joke about your motorcycle
if it happened to be a certain well known brand. He took it as well as
he gave it. He was probably best known for his “Houdini Act” where he
would show up for a ride and then misteriously disappear. He would show
up somewhere else just as mysteriously. Bennie was a kind and giving person
and we are all better for knowing him.
He is preceded in death by his mother, Grace Inez Shepherd and his sister,
Linda. He is survived by his wife, Joann; father, Bennie Shepherd, Sr.;
sisters, Connie Caldwell and Marlene Craib; brother, Harry.
We love you Bennie and you are dearly missed.

and activities, wanting to make this new chapter bigger and stronger.
She also loved teaching. She taught Special Ed Math at Raceland Middle
School for 13 yrs and at Bayou Blue Middle School for a year and a half
before she became ill. Her students were her joy.
She is survived by her loving husband of 32 years, Stephen, aka Papa Smurf,
seen with her in this picture, her son Rusty, her beloved granddaughter
Jade, her mom & dad, sister & brothers and the many friends who's hearts
she touched deeply. She is sorely missed and will always be remembered.

Roy "Whip" Whipp SCC#239068
- Sunset, LA
Member of the Acadiana, Lousiana Chapter
February 17, 1958 ~ March 2, 2008
Whip died as a result of
a crash while out for a Sunday morning ride.
He was the kind of person you couldn't help but like, his smile and laugh
were infectious. That is the only way to phrase it. Infectious. He was
a devoted and proud step-father to my daughter Desirea' age 24, whom so
many times he would refer to as his girl and father to his children, Alex
age 11, Tabitha age 24 and Andy age 4 (deceased).
He worked in the oil industry as a piping designerand was a 3rd degree
Knight of Columbus. He was busy trying to get his farm in Lawtell, LA
ready for us to move to. His dream was to be on the farm so that our children
and future grandchildren would have a place to come hang out, along with
our SCRC folks.
Roy joined Southern Cruisers Riding Club to meet new people and ride.
Little did he know that this organization was going to turn into more
that just a friendship of people who enjoyed riding, they were becoming
"Family". When he told people of his relationship with the SCRC he literally
glowed. The pride he felt for this organization just overwhelmed him.
Our first ride to the Nationals was in 2006, and from that day on SCRC
became a way of life.
Roy was an incredible man, who is missed very much. He is now shiftin'
gears on golden roads.....shift one for us Bullwinkle.

Gordon had a very fulfilling life but was taken from us much too soon.
He was proud of his military service in the Air Force, but he was proudest
of being an educator in the Poplarville, LA and Pensacola, FL school systems.
He has gone on to join his daughter, Marina, who preceded him to heaven
and is survived by his daughter Ariel and fiance’ Dana Snider.
Gordon “Flash” Ladner joined the Southern Cruisers in August 17, 2005.
He was a very active member and volunteered to be the Pensacola Chapter
Safety Officer. Everyone he met was an instant friend.
Roy Wilkins Brock SCC#86024
- Mt Olive, NC
Member of the Goldsboro, North Carolina Chapter
Sept. 5, 1933-June 18, 2008
Roy Wilkins Brock, 74, has
joined his beloved Erika.
Roy was born in Calypso and joined the Army at the age of 18. He retired
after being stationed all over the world. He lived in Swabsburg, Germany
with his wife, Erika, until her death. He remained there until he moved
to Mount Olive and married Brenda Broadway. Roy was a member of Motorrad
1 Club in Mainz, Germany, a motorcycle club. He loved his Moto Guzzi Motorcycles
and his constant companion, Harley Dog. It wasn't long after arriving
back in the states he joined the Southern Cruisers chapter in Goldsboro.
Roy didn't ride every weekend, but when he showed up it was a joy having
him around. He was full of stories from Germany and if he ever started
telling you one you were there for awhile. He spoke with a soft voice
so you had to listen real close to what he was saying. Roy owned two Moto
Guzzi's, one resembled a cop bike and with Roy's sense of humor he put
on the front of it "Not a Cop". The last several rides Roy went on he
brought his grandson and you could look at Roy and you knew he as excited
having him along.
Roy will be missed by all in the Chapter 86 world as well as everyone
he came in contact with.

April 2, 1948 ~ January 12, 2008
Karl died as the result of
a motorcycle accident during a chapter ride. Karl had recently joined
Southern Cruisers and was enjoying riding with others after riding for
a couple of years alone. By all accounts, he loved to ride his Yamaha
V-Star motorcycle. Even though he was new to the chapter, he was well
known to most members and the entire community due to his employment with
TV station WECT and periodic on screen appearances where he delivered
editorials during the news program. The outpouring of love and support
by the community has shown how much he will be missed. His memorial service
was held in a downtown theatre to accommodate the overflow crowd. SCRC
members from several chapters in North Carolina and also from Georgia
were in attendance.
Karl was active in a variety of organizations and causes around the community.
He was an enthusiastic supporter of Downtown Wilmington and charities

over 2 years ago. Due to his failing health, Bill had to quit riding and

so much that he was kept on the roster on "injured reserve". He would
even let the club use his building occasionally for a meeting place for
rides or as a destination.
Della is still on our message board as the SCRC is part of her life and
she wants to keep up with what the chapter is doing.

Carol Lynn Crocker Hauptman
SCC#223038 - Sumter, South Carolina
Member of the Sumpter South Carolina Chapter
June 28, 1963 ~ October 6, 2007
Carol joined the Southern Cruisers in October 2004 after her husband Bruce
met some members on a local charity ride. After that first ride, Carol
was always with Bruce whenever they attended an SCRC ride. They logged
over 7,480 miles together with SCRC. She served as “First Lady” of the
Sumter Chapter while Bruce was First Officer from March 2006 to May 2007.
In addition to the SCRC, Carol was active in her church, Christian Motorcycle
Association, Boy Scouts, and countless other activities. She was also
a proud mother to her children, ages 24, 21, and 17.
There were two things you could be sure of when Carol was on a ride –
1) you were going to laugh and have a good time and 2) there would be
a lot of pictures taken. Carol was always catching you with her camera
at moments when you least expected it. Many of our rides would be a lot
less memorable if it weren’t for Carol’s shutterbug talents.
On the night of October 6th, 2007 Bruce and Carol were returning from
a full day of riding at the Myrtle Beach Fall Rally. They were only about
15 miles from home when they struck a deer. Carol was pronounced dead
at the scene. It was a tragic end to a wonderful life, but as someone
said at her funeral “she died doing something she loved very much with
someone she loved very much.”
Carol was a Sumter native and touched a lot of people with her life. That
was apparent when she was alive and was punctuated by a huge funeral on
October 14th. Over 150 motorcycles and numerous cars took part in the
procession. One firefighter that attended the funeral said he had never
seen anything like it. Chances are he had never met anyone like Carol.

Deb Yocum SCC#62085 - Waynesboro,

Member of the Augusta Georgia Chapter
August 29, 2007
It is sad that many never got a chance to meet Deb because she was a special
Person. People always felt at home around her. She knew how to make everyone
feel like they had been friends forever. Like Pappy her life partner,
she worked hard behind the Augusta Chapter scene keeping up the web page,
posting mileage, updating new members and keeping the membership informed
about upcoming events. Deb worked hard and unselfishly for the chapter
and was truly appreciated as a member, a friend and biker. She will be
missed by all that knew her.

in a fatal multi-car accident.
Dave and his wife Faye joined our Chapter on Jan. 10, 2007. The first
time he rode with our Chapter was just a few days later on Jan. 13, the
annual North Carolina Frostbite ride. From that day forward he seemed
to be present at all bike night meetings. He was involved with almost
every SCRC ride we had, as well as a couple of weekend trips. He always
showed up, a big smile on his face and ready to ride. He knew what belonging
to the South Raleigh Chapter and being a Southern Cruiser really meant,
and he welcomed everyone with open arms.
The services were held in Wilmington, NC near their family, where Dave
and Faye had planned to retire. During the service we shared of our adventures
with Dave that brought laughter during a very sad time. Several other
chapters were also in attendance, and we escorted Dave to his resting

Clark "Sherman" Morton
SCC#24141 - Sherman, Texas
Member of the Ft WorthTexas Chapter
1963 ~ September 14, 2007
Clark had been on our "injured reserve" list for some time, so many of
our newer members might not have met him. Clark and Samantha lived in
Sherman, Texas. When Clark was still able to be active, it was not uncommon
to see him at 2 rides a week (sometimes more). That doesn't seem like
a lot until you consider that he had to ride over 100 miles just to get
to the start point. He was so sold on our chapter that he had A life-sized
chapter patch tatooed to his chest. He was there anytime a Road Captain
needed a Tail Gunner or anytime someone needed to hear a corny joke. Sherman
was much loved by all the chapters he rode with and words cannot express
how much we miss him.

Curt was born in Cisco, TX, a loving son to Sue Clements. He graduated
from El Paso College. Curt served his country in the U.S. Army from 1972
to 1993, retiring as a Sgt. Major. On January 1, 2002, he was united in

the V.F.W., and his motorcycle club "The Bosque River Cruisers". Curt
most recently managed the Village Apartments and in doing so was commended
by the Waco Police Dept. for his diligent and successful work in implementing
the "Crime Free Program" in this community. Curt enjoyed cooking, always
wanting to try something new and scouring recipe books, but his specialities
were Armadillo Eggs and extra hot fresh Salsa. Other favorite past times
were music as he played the guitar, dancing, fishing, motorcycle riding
and most of all spending time with family and friends, playing with the
dogs - "having a good time."

Mickey "White Wolf"
Pridmore SCC#137032 - Mansura, Lousiana
Member of the Central Louisiana Chapter
June 23, 2007
We lost Mickey to a vehicle accident. He tried to avoid a head on collision
but still succumbed.
Mickey was given the name White Wolf when he was a boy by his Cherokee
Grampa. Mickey traveled all over on his Sporty, inspiring people to walk
their talk, to get out and do what they dreamed about! Mickey had his
own way about him, he was straight-forward and raw.
He joined SCRC Cenla Chapter 137 in March ... earning Road Captain status
the following month after guiding the group to and from many destinations.
How deeply he touched those he came in contact with was apparent by the
dozens of people who rallied to properly honour him when he died in June.
He had found a good place inside himself, home, family, and purpose. Though
I know he wouldn't have chosen this time to leave, I am sure he is happy
that it was on his bike. His spirit is strongly felt in the hearts of
those who knew him..

before returning to Detroit to settle down with her second husband, Darryle.

at home in this group. There were no strangers in Krazzy's life, everyone
was a friend. She could find something to love in anyone. She is survived

well enough to get back on the bike to enjoy the freedom it gave him.
Tom retired from Ameritech (formerly Ohio Bell) in Columbus, Ohio in 1994
at the age of 47. In 2000, he became the National President of the Wyckoff
House and Association in Brooklyn, NY. He remained in that position until

been living with his partner Greg "Kodiak" White in St. Petersburg, FL.

Sandy Crawford SCC#102039 -
London,Ontario
Member of the Conroe Texas Chapter
August 29, 1948 ~ March 26, 2007
Sandy, born in St Thomas, Ontario, passed after short battle with Pancreatic
Cancer that took her from us in less than 3 months. Although the battle
was short, she did not give up the fight to the very last minute. Sandy
was married for 37 years to her devoted husband Rick after going steady
since they were 14 years old. They were together almost 43 years and in
Rick's words,
"I am soooo happy for that time in my life."
Sandy was a nurse and ended up working in Nursing homes. She was happiest
helping people. People often told Rick he was married to an Angel but
he already knew that to be true. She worked at Hospice in Texas for almost
11 years. She even did child bereavement counciling, but it was just to
difficult for here. She could not stay uninvolved when young children
were involved. When they moved back to Canada, she went back to the same
nursing home where she worked many years before. She was employed there
until her death.
Everyone meeting Sandy liked her as soon as they met her. Sandy is survived
by her daughter Cobie, age 37, her son Matthew, age 32, his wife Sophie
age 32 and her two grandchildren Ethan age 4, and Zoe age 6 that she loved
sooo much. She tolerated riding on Rick's motorcycle, but loved the SCRC
Conroe family. She loved to be involved with everything they did, except
the riding part. What's with that??
"I think she willingly rides with me now, just to keep me safe. I often
leave the passenger floor boards down, just for her."

ride often with the Southern Cruisers before the illness took him away
but we know that he is joined by all those that preceeded him and they
are having a fantastic ride now.
Glen Long SCC#162011 - Hampstead,
North Carolina
Member of the Port City North Carolina Chapter
June 21, 1933 ~ July 20, 2007
The Port City Chapter is greatly saddened by the loss of our friend and
brother Glen Long. Glen was one of our original members and was a dedicated
part of our chapter until his death. Glen never met a stranger and loved
to give out his hugs to friends and new acquaintances as well. Many members
recall Glen being the first person to greet them at their first ride.
Glen had a zest for life and enjoyed living it to the fullest. Even though
he was 67 when he joined, he was always up for a day ride or a trip out
of state. He enjoyed collecting the prize at events for the oldest rider,
even though he looked much younger. He surprised a few of us when he decided
to get his first tattoo after he was 70.
Glen was born and grew up in West Virginia and served in the Air Force
during the Korean War. He then worked in telecommunications with Western
Electric and GTE until his retirement in 1991. When not cruising on his
trusty Royal Star, Glen also liked to play golf with his friends and go
to the movies with Betty.
Glen leaves behind his beloved wife Betty, a stepson Jeffrey, and two
daughters, Teresa and Sandra, seven grandchildren, and three brothers.
We will cherish our memories of Glen and the good times we had together
for the rest of our lives.

Danny "Pooh Bear" Marr, Sr.
SCC#393014 - Hiram, GA
First Officer Lost Mountain Georgia Chapter
On March 25, 2007, the Marr
family, the Lost Mountain Chapter and the SCRC lost Danny "Pooh Bear"
Marr to a tragic motorcycle accident. Pooh Bear was doing what he loved,
spending time with his family and friends, riding on a beautiful day.
Danny, at age 17, volunteered
for the Army and completed two tours of duty in Viet Nam. He was proud
of his service, loved his country and had a dream to visit the Viet Nam
War Memorial in Washington, D.C., a dream that was fulfilled in March
of this year. Danny leaves behind a wife, children, step-children and
grandchildren. He was but 56 years young.
Pooh Bear had been the First
Officer of the Lost Mountain Chapter less than a year but he fully understood
the principles of the club. He loved the idea of posting a ride, and friends
getting together, just that simple. And he thought the idea of getting
together for a ride, and throwing a few bucks in a hat to help make some
hurting kids get well was an amazing idea. At the time of his passing
he was in the planning stages of yet another poker run to benefit Saint
Jude Children's Hospital.
Even though we know he'll
be on every ride with us, he will be badly missed. Ride on Brother
"Lets Ride."
Betty "BikerBetty"
Taylor SCC#340013 - Fourney, Texas
Member of the Kaufman County Texas Chapter
March 4th, 2007
Betty loved life - and loved her husband, Frank, who was her steady companion
and her rock during the final months of her battle with leukemia. Betty
previously rode a Honda 500 for about 15 years. She took 10 years off
from riding to run her own business. She took a rider safety training
course and purchased a Honda 600. It really was just like starting over
again after 10 years! In her words, "That Honda was not enough for her",
so she sold it and purchased a shiny new red Honda Aero 750 that she loved.
She dressed it out with saddlebags, a luggage rack, a sissy bar and a
V&H exhaust system.
She and husband Frank rode together when he was home from his OTR truck
driving job. Betty loved being in the position to ride anytime she could,
and did much to support SCRC Kaufman County Chapter #340. She never met
a stranger and always encouraged the people she met to come ride with
her and the Chapter. She enjoyed riding with other chapters as well. We
will miss Betty and wish her God speed and love in her continuing journey..

Yamaha Venture Millennium Edition, a 2001 Suzuki 1500 Intruder known as

as Suzi II.
In 2004, Rich joined the Denton County Chapter #195. During that time
he earned the road name of “Family Guy”. If you ever met Rich, you'd know
that he was a big guy, not only in size but in heart too. He not only
looked like “Family Guy” but it was because of the love he had for his
Family and Friends is why the name really fit him.
On Wednesday, November 22, 2006 Rich “Family Guy” Jaeger was taken from

Rick “HAWK” Hawkins was one of the early members of the SE Okla. Chapter.
He and his wife Betty have been riding since the early 80’s when they

him into the SCRC. Hawk and Spider John, both Vietnam Vets, were the best
of friends and spent many hours riding and socializing.
Hawk succumbed to a hard fought battle with cancer on October 7, 2006.
He is greatly missed but his infectious smile, personality and his “Go
Full Blast” enthusiasm for life will stay with us forever.
So when you see that bright streak in the midnight sky, it’s not a falling
star! It’s just “Hawk” and “Spider John” riding from Star-to-Star having
their fun in eternity. Map out the stars Brothers, so you can show us
the route when we all meet again.

He always referred to them as his "mitts." His heart was as big or bigger
than his "Mitts." Family was always number one to him with his motorcycle

Barbi was 34 when she was diagnosed with Cervical Cancer and given 6 months
or less to live. She proved those doctors wrong, enduring radiation, chemo
and needles for 5 years. The pain increased a week before she passed.
Her daughters Bryndi and Kryztal felt she was the greatest Woman they
had ever known, not only a mother but a best friend. She was a strong
person and didn't give up without a fight. It was a tragedy to lose her
but her time had come and we will remember her forever.

Spider was the guy who was constant; he showed up for every ride and the
longer the ride the better. He loved the curves but was an ultra safe
rider. He had ridden every thing from Harleys to Hondas. He had ridden
for over 40 years and was glad to offer pointers to novice riders. His
motto was "Live and let live". And his favorite phrases while on a ride
was "It don't get no better than this". And he would pull out a broken
pocket watch and say " we're right on time". We miss Spider a lot. He
rides forever in our memories.

Patti Ray SCC#196005 - Wills
Point, Texas
Member of the Rockwall Texas Chapter
Patti started riding later in life after the death of her husband. She
was a retired widow who kept driving past a motorcycle for sale on the
side of the road on her way to and from the grocery store. Finally she
decided that she was not going to sit back and let life pass her by, she
was going to try something that she always thought would be fun. She bought
the bike and in her own words "that motorcycle jump started my life, I
now have new friends and plenty to do. I have new roads to explore, new
friends to make, I have a life again"! Patti was suddenly taken from us
on February 16th, 2006 on her way home from having dinner with a friend.
She and her bike were found by a passing motorist just a few miles from
her home, the cause of the accident will likely never be known. Patti
was one of those people that made you a better person for knowing her.
Always outgoing, sincere in her desire to know you, and someone who truly
cared for you as a friend. She was a wife, mother, grandmother, and a
friend to anyone she met. She had told her children that when she died
not to morn her death but to celebrate her life. Her friends in the SCRC
will always celebrate the life of Patti; but we will always miss our friend.

Willie was one of the smartest young men I have ever met. He didn't fit
the mold of a biker but he was such a part of our chapter that we never
did anything without him being there. A month before his death he road
with us to the Georgia State Rally where we celebrated his 21st birthday.
He was deeply loved by all the members of our chapter because of the way
he had of keeping us all grounded.
A freak accident not involving motorcycles took him from us and left us
all with a big hole in our heart. He was the kind of kid that was not
afraid to tell you how much he loved his mother. We know he will ride
with us again someday.

Anthony Leanard SCC#244001 -
Corpus Christi, Texas
Member of the Corpus Christi Texas Chapter
January 25, 1980 - December 1 3 , 2005
Anthony died December 13, 2005 as a result of injuries sustained from
a motorcycle accident. After a night out with his fiance and friends he
was run off the road by a vehicle that fled the scene. He is survived
by his fiance, Tasya; father Larry' "Bossman"; mother, Lisa "Swoosh";
brother , Kris; sister, Toni and brother-in-law, Lee.
Anthony was born in Tyler,
Texas, and graduated from Langahm Creek High School in Houston, Texas.
He enlisted in the United States Navy in 1998 and proudly served everyday
thereafter as an Aviation Machinist. He was stationed at Tinker Air Force
Base in Oklahoma City and Naval Air Station Corpus Christi. His greatest
accomplishment though was being 1st Officer of the Southern Cruisers Corpus
Christi Chapter, following in the steps of his father Larry "Bossman"
Leanard, retired 1st Officer of the Houston chapter. Anthony set two records:
the youngest 1st officer at the age of 25 and the first father and son
1st officers. He revived the Corpus chapter and enjoyed spending time
with his riding buddies who came to be great friends. He especially loved
to ride with his family after he received his 2002 Honda Sabre,a gift
from his father . He often bragged about how many miles he had put on
it in such a short time. As long as there was road to ride, he was there.
He made the ride to Sturgis and the Iron Butt ride, and rode that bike
everyday to work. He was happiest when on his bike with his lover at his
side, rain or shine or just plain hot south Texas weather. Often members
of other clubs rode with him because he always had a ride planned. Anthony
was engaged to be married after meeting his fiance at the Southern Cruisers
Christmas Party. In true biker fashion, he proposed on stage at the Harley
State Rally. He could always be found with a charasmatic smile making
someone laugh. We will never forget how he brought that to everyone he
met or why he wanted to wear that red lace bra at Spring Up 2004. As an
orginal member of the Houston chapter he made a long lasting and loving
impression on everyone that he met. We will try to make the laughter outweigh
the tears, as that's how you would have wanted it. We love you Anthony|

June 6, 2005
Mark Anthony (as he liked to be called) joined the Southern Cruisers in
April 2005, actually purchasing his Valkyrie and joining after admiring
a member's bike. Unfortunately, he never had an opportunity to ride with
the chapter. Mark Anthony fought for over two weeks before succumbing
to injuries from a motorcycle accident on May 20th. That is the type of
person he was, he was a fighter.
Mark Anthony graduated from the United States Military Academy, West Point,
NY, in 1991. At West Point, he was Brigade boxing champion in his weight
class, competed on the Army's intercollegiate boxing team and was Sandhurst
military training company captain. After West Point he had a well-decorated
Army career, rising to the rank of Major, serving in Korea and in several
stateside posts. He was Ranger, Airborne and Expert Infantryman qualified.
At the time of his death, Mark Anthony was an adored college teacher.
He was also a competitive ‘B’ level racquetball player who made it to
the finals of many tournaments in South Carolina. In the short time Mark
Anthony owned his Valkyrie he enjoyed it to the fullest to include attending
the Daytona Spring Bike Week. Mark Anthony always had a smile for you
and he will be missed.

Valda "Redbird" Brittain
SCC#120225 - Willis, Texas
Member of the Conroe, Texas Chapter
December 15, 1952 - May 3, 2005
Valda spent the last 1½ years of a difficult 4-year battle with liver
disease as a member with the SCRC and loved being out on the road riding
with her husband, "Captain" Ron. She was a sweet soul with an incredible
fighting spirit, which was very clear in August of 2004. When Valda became
very ill and was admitted to the hospital, everyone thought the end was
surely near when it was decided that nothing more could be done and her
breathing tube would be pulled. But her will to survive, coupled with
the many prayers of family, friends, church members and SCRC members from
across the country, brought her through that dark time to the surprise
of everyone. Redbird loved being with her SCRC family and as long as she
was well enough to leave home she made sure she was at every Bike Night
and rode on most of the Chapter Rides, always cheerful and with a smile
on her face. Her fondest memory was when she was able to attend Bike Night
while still in the Neuro Rehabilitation Center and at the evenings end,
the Conroe Chapter gave Valda and her husband Ron a motorcycle escort
all the way back to the Center.
Valda is survived by her husband, 1 daughter, 1 step-son, her father,
1 sister, 1 brother, 2 step-sisters, and 1 step-brother. Valda will be
in our hearts forever and will be dearly missed. She was a beautiful and
caring person to all .

"Ham" passed as a result of a heart attack. He was a retired
motor policeman, one of our best tailgunners, a friend and a brother.
He was there for the ride every day we met rain or shine. He rode roads
that most of us only hope to ride and he taught us much. If you're ever
riding down the road and see a white "Wing" and hear country
music blaring, think of "Hambone". He truly loved his motorcycle
and his music.

Steve "Runt" Hurley
SCC#211109 - Parsons, Tennessee
Member of the Golden Circle Tennessee Chapter
Steve lost his painful and devestating battle with Cancer on Sunday, February
13, 2005. Although his pain was incredible and his body was crumbling
from the cancer, he ramained cheerful and entertaining to the end. He
was a big guy with a heart beyond comparison.
Runt was an owner operator and he loved trucking. He touched everyone
he came into contact with on the road. Runt just had that special personality
that some folks are blessed with. He could make you smile in your darkest
hour. Runt was a Member of The Golden Circle Chapter (Jackson TN.) for
a little over three years. Debra and Runt were married for 10 years and
they have a blended family of 5 children and 5 grandchildren between them.
The only thing he loved more than his family or trucking was riding his
bike or trike and helping people in need. We met him at a benefit we were
doing for another Member who had lost her leg in a motorcycle accident.
It was like God had sent him to us. He asked if he and his wife Debra,
could cook BBQ and donate all the meat and their time and effort to the
benefit. We immediately knew they were Southern Cruiser material, and
signed them up. Runt and Debra loved to feed everyone, not only with food,
but also, with smiles. They cooked at all our events and benefits from
then on. Runt was helping people in need long before we met him, especially
kids. He would dress up as Santa Clause and buy gifts out of his own pocket
and deliver them to under privileged kids in and around his home town
of Parsons TN. When we told him that the SCRC helped the kids at St. Jude,
he was hooked. He was a loyal Member of our Chapter and said many times,
he was "SCRC for life." Runt even wore his vest, displaying The SCRC Patch,
when he was trucking. He said it got him out of a speeding ticket one
time because the police officer was also SCRC. Runt will be missed greatly
by us but we know he is riding those streets of gold and will know where
all of the good twisties are when we join him one day. He was way more
than a friend. He is our Brother forever! .

have lost a great friend - if you never got the opportunity to meet Sharky,
you have lost a friend that you had not yet met.
Sharky was one of our founding members and one of our greatest advocates
for Southern Cruisers. Many of our members found out about Southern Cruisers
after meeting Sharky somewhere around town and being told enthusiastically
about how great our group was. The truth is, it is great because of people
like Sharky. Sharky was one a Road Captain and worked hard on our trips
to keep members safe and to help us enjoy our ride. Once we reached our
destination, he was our good will ambassador - meeting and greeting friends
and strangers alike.

William Oliver SCC#221082 - Lawrenceville
Georgia
We all find friends through our lives that make us feel special, but the
ones that we never meet are the ones that could have affected our lives in
so many good and powerful ways. Today I lost one of my friends that all of
you were destined to meet. He was a person that took pride in all that he
did in his life, from day to day things we over look some times, such as
work, relaxing, or riding his bike and enjoying a beer with friends. He would
go out of his way to make things special, such as having a Christmas party
to show people how much he cherished them and just enjoyed their company,
or the special way he treated his wife and family.
Today we all lost some one we would have loved for one reason or another,
if we didn't already know and love him simply for who he was. Some lost a
father, some lost a friend, others a family member, and one special lady
lost much more than that. So give that special someone a big hug and let
them know how much you love them, and when you see the guy doing his job,
the man riding his motorcycle, or the gentleman hanging out talking over
a cup of Waffle House coffee or a nice cold beer, take the time to try to
get to know him. If you don't, he could be a brother not known.<BR>
This is for a very special friend that touched my life for a short while.
In many ways some knew him more then I did, some less, but I am happy for
those that got to meet him and saddened for those that did not have the
opportunity. He joined the Southern Cruisers in August of 2003. One month
later he received his patch, and two weeks after that he was diagnosed with
a brain tumor. Now, he has left behind all the pain, but for those that remember
him he also left the memories of all the good times. So please remember to
cherish your loved ones and let them know what they mean to you. We will
miss you, Bill, and we will never forget you.

classes he needed to get his degree. He was a hippie. While taking courses
at Purdue, Mr. Crow did a few other things. He ran a record store, Ruby's
Red Hot Records, was a carnival barker, learned sleight-of-hand magic and
made one-of-a-kind jewelry. He founded a nonprofit organization in Fort Wayne
called Switchboard, one of the earliest attempts to set up a 24-hour phone
line for people in trouble. It still exists today. Mr. Crow moved to Atlanta
in 1988, three years after earning his Purdue degree, and landed work as
a computer programmer and systems analyst with Equifax. They would dump a
manual on his desk, and he would figure out how to do or fix most anything.
He was also a former rock guitarist, a singer in a barbershop group. He joined
the Southern Cruisers Riding club, riding the Honda he named Snaggletooth
on both fund-raising and fun trips. Often Mr. Crow wore bow ties when he

be greatly missed by her family, members of her chapter and all those whose
lives she touched. Vicki is survived by two children, Henry "Bear" and Brandiss.
Vicki loved everyone she met and lived each day as if it was her last - we
could all learn from this. Her funeral was so large that some had to stand
outside. She had friends there from all races, nationalities and economic
classes. Although it has been some time since she left us, we wish there
were more with her personality as she never looked down on people or placed
anyone in a status. Her family was very proud to have the Southern Cruisers
escort her on her last trip, in doo rags and leathers - they are sure she
was thrilled.
A special thanks to all of Vicki's friends and family for their kindness

Charlie lost his battle with Cancer on Wednesday, March 26th.
That Charlie OneNut Persley was a member of our Club is not the
most important thing I can say as a friend. Charlie was such a decent man
who earned my respect more every time I was close to him. He served our country
in the Armed Forces, Served as My Friend, Served as Husband, Father and
Grandfather and last but not least, he served as our chapter Tail Gunner.
One would think with all this service Charlie would be tired but no, with
a smile on his face and a hand out starched to help anyone at anytime Charlie
was solid as a rock.
The National Cemetery in Grand Prairie Texas swelled with sound of motorcycles
and the voices of the riders who came to pay our respects but Charlie knew
I respected him long before that day.

We lost one of our dear brothers on Friday November 15th 2002. John Burke
was a member of the Sand Mountain, Alabama chapter, and was a very happy,
loving, and great person to be around. John had a way of making everyone
around him feel loved, and loved nothing more than being on the bike with
his Dad Jimmy. He wouldn't shake your hand, he'd give you a tight hug, and
a good slap on the back, that was his way of saying "hello brother"! He was
someone that when you met him, you would walk away with a smile, and for
most, you would have a friendship that would last forever. This is a picture
of John and Jimmy, on a trip to Missouri in August of 2002, John is on the

Monday, October 21, 2002
Bill (KC, for Kansas City) Sudduth was born October 18th,1948. He has 3 sons
and 1 daughter. One of his sons, Rocky, is a member of the Southwest Louisiana
chapter and Bill enjoyed riding over and spending time with their chapter
as well as ours. He had a fantastic sense of humor and kept everyone laughing,
even when he wasn't feeling well. When he found out he had terminal cancer
last December, one of the things he was the most upset about is the fact
he wouldn't be able to ride again. During all this, his son Rocky, who was
stationed overseas, was allowed to come home. Then Summer came and Bill got
his break ...his cancer went into remission. Bill, Joe and Rocky were able
to ride together to several events. I am sorry to say that only a few people
in the Arkansas Chapters got to meet Bill. For those of us who did, we will
always remember his sharp wit and great stories. KC will be laid to rest
in Quantico Virginia.
Rest in Peace KC.

Bill is in the middle with the beard.
Richard Ogdon SCC#24249 - Saginaw Texas
Member - Ft Worth Texas Chapter
08/1/53 to 10/14/02
Rick was no angel, on that we can all agree, but he wasnt as bad as
he pretended to be. Once you got past the long hair and the clothes he wore,
he wasnt just a party fool; he was so much more. He was loyal to his
friends, sensitive, bullheaded and had a winning personality, he was restless,
adventurous, charming and had a sprit that was free.
He could be so frustrating and then hed give you a little grin, then
all would be forgiven and youd start all over again. The only way you
could love Rick was unconditionally. that didnt mean you had to like
the person he sometimes could be!
More than once Ive shown him the door and told him to go. The next
day there he would be at my door head hanging low. His way of saying he was
sorry was by bringing a rose to me, freshly picked from my rosebush, its
the thought that counts you see.
I never understood why he cared if I was mad or not, until one day he told
me why and it explained a lot. He told me he had respect for only 2 women
in his life, I told him of course, your mother and your wife! He told me
one was his mother that part was true, he gave me the greatest complement
when he said the other one is you.
Rick also loved his children, all 5 of them, he carried them in his heart
they were always with him. We always told Rick hed have to grow up
someday, well, he didnt listen and he lived life his way! He loved
his motorcycle, riding gave him such a high, ride it till the
wheels fall off was the motto he lived by. Well, he rode it till
the wheels fell off and now hes really free, he went the way he lived
his live, just the way it was meant to be!

helplessly as his father passed away. Please keep Larry, his son and their

Thomas H. "Mac" McKinion
SCC#162008 - Wilmington, North Carolina
Member Port City, North Carolina Chapter
June 15, 2001
Mac was one of the first members of the Port City, Wilmington, NC Chapter.
He was retired from the Marine Corps with 20 years of service. An avid
outdoorsman, Mac loved motorcycling and camping and would cook up a batch
of Mulligan stew at a moments notice. During his life, Mac also piloted
his own small plan and at one time also owned a small cabin cruiser (equipped
with a galley for making his famous stew) which he kept in a Wilmington
marina. Even after physical problems slowed Mac down from pursuing his
favorite hobby of motorcycling, he always dreamed of taking that next
camping trip. Mac was a big man with a big heart and is missed by all
whom had the privilege of knowing and riding with him
.

Erika Leider Brock - Schwabsburg, Germany
Wife of Member at Large Roy W Brock SCCMal#10007
Saturday, 4 May, 2002
This is a memorial to my wife Erika Leider Brock, who departed this life
on the 4th of May 2002. My wife never rode even 10 feet on a motorcycle with
me, but she never denied me the time to ride or to work on my bike, She never
said no when I said "Honey I need a drive shaft or a tire or whatever." This
lady was happy when I was happy, sad when I was sad. She was my greatest
booster in anything I attempted. All she said when I left on my last long
trip was "I love you so be careful and come back to me". It was for a thousand
small and large thing she did for me while she was alive that I will forever
wear a scroll on my vest that reads In memory of Erika 4 May 2002.
Derrick Hay SCC#207001 - Rocky
Comfort, Missouri
Member of the Roaring River, Missouri Chapter
Sunday, 12 May, 2002
On Mother's Day, Derrick Hay sadly lost his battle with his brain tumor.
He passed quietly in his sleep during the afternoon. The membership will
remember Derrick as a remarkable young man, who was dear to all of us.
His testament to life was to appreciate every minute while you could and
he showed remarkable wisdom for a young man in his teens. We will remember
the great times we had visting with him since last fall, the wonderful
games of scrabble in the yard under the old oak tree, his smile when we
rode up, and how all the girls showered their affection on him. His passing
brings a tear to the eye of every member who knew him, but we are thankful
the Lord has finally given him the peace he so much deserved. Please keep
his mom Debbie, and Dad Chris, as well as his sisters and brothers in
your prayers.

1991 Harley-Davidson Electra Glide Classic whenever he was able and his schedule
permitted. He was kept very busy building a new home near the ocean where
he planned to enjoy his retirement with his wife, Barbara. He never let his
illness stop him from living his life with vigor and enthusiasm. Never did
we hear him complain about what life dealt him. His spirit and determination
will forever be an inspiration to those who were fortunate to know him. We
will miss his gentleness, humor and smile.

Member of the Cape Fear Chapter
Tarzan was taken from us after losing the battle with cancer. Tarzan was
one of the finest examples of Southern Cruiser attitude I have been privileged
to see. He was not just a member, he was a friend to all that met him. Harold
never missed a ride and served as 3rd Officer for the chapter. He loved to
ride and loved the friendships he formed. Besides his wife Jane and his own
family, he had some of his SCRC family there with him during his last few
hours. Those that met him cannot deny that he was one of the truly great
people you don't find very often in this world. I know he is now riding the
clouds in the sky........ He will be missed but never forgotten.
The Cape Fear chapter honors Tarzan's memory with an annual Ride to the Mountains
of North Carolina - "Road to Nowhere". Tarzan's ashes were let loose in the
wind there, just as he rode with the wind in life.

Jan Kohut SCC#204044 - Rosna, Czech Republic
Member of the Czech-Moravian Upland, Czech Republic Chapter
Motorcycle Accident
"Saturday, March 17, 2001, it was a sad day for all chapter members of SCRC
in the Czech Republic, today was the funeral of Jan Kohut (member #204044).
This was our first death of a member since SCRC was started in the Czech
Republic a little over a year ago. Jan was only 21 years old. He was an
enthusiastic biker and rode his bike whenever possible, a FZR-1000. On Saturday,
March 10, it was an unusually warm and sunny day for this time of year. Many
members across the Czech Republic took advantage of this beautiful day and
rode their bikes. Jan had to go to work that day so he decided to ride his
bike to work. On his way home from work there was a patch of sand on a curve,
there were no witnesses, so what happened is speculation. Who knows if someone
cut him off or an animal ran across the road, his bike apparently hit the
sand on the curve, the bike slid out from under him and he hit a concrete
post.
The funeral was held in the town of Bystrici nad Pernstejnem. The Town square
was the meeting point for the bikers. About 25 showed up on their motorcycles
despite the 40 degree weather and the threat of rain, an additional 25 bikers
showed up by car. Some of the bikers were members of SCRC, some were members
of a local club and some were just bikers who new Jan and were there to say
their last farewell. During the funeral service there were more then a few
bikers who had tears in their eyes for the passing of a fellow biker and
one who was so young and had so much to look forward The funeral procession
to the cemetery was proceeded by a an escort of 25 motorcycles, a final tribute
to Jan. Let us hope that it is a very long time before we have to go to another
members funeral and even then, may it be because of old
age."
Kevin Hill SCC#16096 - Universal City, Texas
Member of the Central Texas Chapter
Motorcycle Accident
"The Central Texas Chapter lost a brother on 4 March 2001. Kevin Hill, also
known as Marshal USKHill, had an accident after the Central Texas Twist-Off
Poker Run. After the ceremonies at the end of the poker run, Kevin was heading
to a barbecue place with many other Southern Cruisers. He rounded a curve
leading to a bridge, went wide, hit the left side of the concrete bridge
railing and was thrown over the railing and fell about 30 feet to the dry
creek bed below. Kevin was a valuable member of this club. He had a great
sense of humor, a quick dry wit, and was always willing to help a friend
in need. His companionship will be missed by all of us."

we love remain with us

Those we love can never be

For as long as there is memory,
they will live on in the heart.
RIDE BROTHER
RIDE !!
Ox
I say goodbye
my BROTHER,
as I ride from your funeral and think of all you have done for others.
I say farewell,
as I struggle to understand why someone as good as you was taken from
us.
At the same time I know you are healthy now and riding for the kids in
heaven.
I say farewell,
as I feel a empty spot in our formations,
yet I know you now ride the best roads - with twisties like we could never
possibly dream of.
I say goodbye
my BROTHER,
as I pray to God to help me be half the man you were while I look back
at the example you set for us.
I say farewell
my BROTHER,
as I try not to weep for the loss of such a good friend,
but too rejoice in the fact that I was blessed and allowed to know you
at all.
I say goodbye
my BROTHER,
as I await the day when we can ride together again,
and promise to continue to do what I can here to try to make it a better
place even if only for one sick child.
I say farewell
my BROTHER,
proud to have been your brother now and forever.
Until we ride together again,
I say goodbye.

God’s Greatest
Plan
He was so special
and dear to so many here
Oh how we cherished
our time with him here
below but for each there will come a time to go
Dismayed we were
when angels
above took our beloved
In God’s plan
there is no sickness or pain
just all of God’s riches to gain
Just remember
nothing is greater
Then to spend eternity with our Creator
For that is God’s Greatest Plan
Life Is Beautiful,
My Child
Life is beautiful,
my child,
Though many things go wrong,
And you may hear much sadness in
Its strange and lovely song.
Though friends
and loved ones die, my child,
They're never really gone.
Nor more nor less than yesterday,
In you they will live on.
They will live
on in you, my child,
As everything you see,
Though it must vanish,
will remain Alive in memory.
Alive in what
you think and feel
And dream and say and do,
For all who ever were still are
Upon this earth in you.
Dont
stand at my grave and weep
I am not there, I do not sleep
I am a thousand winds that blow
I am the diamond glint in snow
I am the sunlight on ripened grain
I am the gentle autumn rain
When you wake in the morning hush
I am the swift uplifting rush
of quite birds in circling flight
I am the soft starlight at night
Do not stand at my grave and weep
I am not there, I do not sleep
You could
fly without a fear of falling
and we know you are soaring high
We wish
we could have had the chance to say good-bye
Although you have left in search of better roads
You are
never truly gone, you are watching over us below
Our road angel you will forever be
Until that day we will together all ride free
-Eternally Yours
I'm safely
home in Heaven
Though I know you miss me so,
The love I've always felt for you'
Within my heart still flows,
My spirit will remain with you'
Every single day appearing as a
Rainbow or as ocean waves at play,
I'm in the gentle rains that fall'
and in the morning dew,
All you see that's beautiful
reflects my love for you.
I didn't mean to cause you pain,
My time had simply come.
The work that I was meant to do
On earth had all been done.
I'm safely home in Heaven,
Where eternal peace is mine.
And where, when God has called you,
too, I'll be forever Thine.
When I get where I'm going,
there be only happy tears.
I will shed the sins and troubles
I have carried all these years.
I'll leave my heart wide open,
I will love and have no fear.
When I get where I'm going
don't cry for me down there.
He Only
Takes the Best
God saw
you were getting tired
and a cure was not to be,
So he put his arms around you
And whispered, "Come with me."
With tear-filled
eyes we watched
as you suffered and faded away,
Although we loved you deeply
We could not will you to stay.
A golden
heart stopped beating,
Hard-Working hands at rest,
God Broke our heats to show us
He only takes the best.
THE ROSE BEYOND
THE WALL
A rose once grew
where all could see,
Sheltered beside a garden wall
And as the days
passed swiftly by,
It spread its branches, straight and tall
One day,
a beam of light shone through
a crevice that had opened wide
The rose bent gently
toward its warmth
then passed beyond to the other side
Now, you who deeply
Feel its loss,
Be comforted…the rose blooms…
There Its beauty
even greater now,
Nurtured by God’s own loving care.
CHERISHED FRIENDS
God must have known
there would be times
we'd need a word of cheer,
Someone to praise a triumph
or brush away a tear.
He must have known we'd
need to share
the joy of "little things"
In order to appreciate
the happiness life brings.
I think He knew our
troubled hearts
would sometimes throb with pain,
At trials and misfortunes,
or goals we can't attain.
He knew we'd need the
comfort
of an understanding heart
To give us strength and courage
to make a fresh, new start.
He knew we'd need companionship,
unselfish.... lasting.... true,
And so God answered the heart's great need
with Cherished Friends.... like you!
SAM
A year ago you passed away
My heart still aches today
I can't believe you're truly gone
the pain still lingers on
My
eyes are filled with tear drops
My stomach all tied in knots
Confusion over fills my head
As your shoes sit near our bed
Thirty
two years of divine bliss
Your embrace oh how I miss
From my sight you have gone away
Our true love is here to stay
Forever
you will be in my heart
My love for you will never part
You were my life you see In heaven
I will be with thee

END OF THE
ROAD
When I come
to the end of the road,
and the sun has set for me,
I want no rites in a gloom-filled room,
Why cry for a soul set free.
Miss me a little, but not to long,
and not with your head bowed low.
Remember the love that we once shared,
Miss me, but let me go.
For this is a journey all must take,
and each must go alone.
It is all part of the Master's plan,
a step on the road to home.
When you are lonely and sick of heart,
go to the friends we know.
And bury your sorrows in doing good deeds,
Miss me --- but let me go.
George Monseur
Thou I have
had to leave you, Whom I love,
to go along the silent way, grieve not,
nor speak of me with tears,
but laugh and talk of me, as if I were beside you.
For who knows but I shall be oft times.
I'd come, I'd come could I but find the way.
And would not tears and griefs be barriers?
So, when you hear a word I used to say,
or touch a thing I loved,
let not your thoughts of me be sad,
for I am loving you just as I always have.

THE
STATION
By Robert J. Hastings
Tucked away
in our subconscious minds is an idyllic vision in which we see ourselves
on a long journey that spans an entire continent. We're traveling by train,
and from the windows, we drink in the passing scenes of cars on nearby
highways, of children waving at crossings, of cattle grazing in distant
pastures of smoke poring from power plants, of row upon row of cotton
and corn and wheat, of flatlands and valleys, of city skylines and village
halls.
But uppermost in our minds is our final destination - for at a certain
hour and on a given day our train will finally pull into the station with
bells ringing, flags waving and bands playing. And once that day comes,
so many wonderful dreams will come true.
So restlessly, we pace the aisles and count the miles, peering ahead,
waiting for the station. "Yes, when we reach the station that will be
it!" we promise ourselves. "When we're 18.... win that promotion ... put
the last kid through college ... buy that 450 SL Mercedes-Benz ... pay
off the mortgage ... have a nest egg for retirement. " From that day on,
we will all live happily ever after.
Sooner or later, however, we must realize there is no station in this
life, no one earthly place to arrive at once and for all. The Journey
is the joy. The station is an illusion - it constantly outdistances us.
Yesterday's a memory; tomorrow's a dream. Yesterday belongs to history;
tomorrow belongs to God.
Yesterday's a fading sunset; tomorrow's a faint sunrise. Only today is
there light enough to love and live.
So, gently close the door on yesterday and throw the key away. It isn't
the burdens of today that drive men mad, but rather the regret over yesterday
and the fear of tomorrow.
"Relish the Moment" is a good motto, especially when coupled with Psalm
118:24 "This is the day which the Lord hath made; we will rejoice and
be glad in it."
So stop pacing the aisles and counting the miles. Instead, swim more rivers,
climb more mountains kiss more babies.
Count more stars. Laugh more and cry less. Go barefoot more often. Eat
more ice cream. Ride more merry-go-rounds. Watch more sunsets. Life must
be lived as we go along.

"Gone
from my sight"
By Henry Van Dyke,
a 19th Century clergyman, educator, poet, and religious writer
I am standing
upon the seashore. A ship at my side spreads her white sails to the morning
breeze and starts for the blue ocean.
She is an object
of beauty and strength. I stand and watch her until at length she hangs
like a speck of white cloud just where the sea and sky come to mingle
with each other.
Then someone
at my side says: " There, she is gone!"
"Gone where?"
Gone from my sight. That is all. She is just as large in mast and hull
and spar as she was when she left my side and she is just as able to bear
her load of living freight to her destined port. Her diminished size is
in me, not her.
And just at
the moment when someone at my side says: "There, she is gone!" there are
other eyes watching her coming, and other voices ready to take up the
glad shout: "Here she comes!" And that is dying.

Let us not try to reason
When there cannot be a reason found...
Let us rather just remember
that single lonely trembling light
and that all too familiar sound,
moving away into the night.
... along that long and winding road...
... Forever. .
